Let’s Honor Our Doughboys!
The 29th Division Association Launches Fundraising Campaign for WWI Meuse Argonne Battle Monument.
The 29th Division Association is conducting a fundraising campaign to build a new
monument in France commemorating the 29th Division’s contributions to the great
Meuse-Argonne Offensive in World War One (WWI). The Offensive was the key part of
the overall Allied effort to end WWI through attacks along the entire Front in Europe
from the Belgian coast southeast to the Meuse-Argonne region. The Meuse-Argonne
Offensive, the largest offensive with U.S. troops including the 29 th , led to the defeat of
Germany and the end of the war.
There is no 29th Division WWI monument in France – this effort will correct that. The
monument also honors the 29th Division’s three Medal of Honor recipients: Pvt Henry
Costin, Sgt Earl Gregory, and 2nd Lt Patrick Regan.
The monument will be prominently located in Consenvoye, France, near the banks of
the Meuse River. The Association has partnered with the town of Consenvoye and
commissioned Henri-Patrick Smith, an accomplished French sculptor, to produce the
monument. The dedication of the monument is scheduled for early October 2025.
The Association has established The Blue and Gray Fund under the umbrella of the
Community Foundation of Central Blue Ridge, a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations will
be fully tax deductible (less the provided good faith estimate of the value of any goods
